Spotlight: Certainly bred for the job, being by Wootton Bassett out of a mare who won this race for Aidan O'Brien in 2012; has improved with virtually every run, finishing second to Henri Matisse in Leopardstown Group 3 (7f, good to yielding) in March and fifth to Field Of Gold in Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh (1m, good; faded) last month; missed his last intended engagement due to soft ground (impressive winner on good to firm); may well be the answer.
Spotlight: Notably progressive type who made a clearcut winning reappearance in novice at Kempton (7f, AW) in March and ran a cracker when second in Listed event at Newmarket (7f, good; 16-1) in May; the Newmarket form has been boosted several times; still has potential and should be in the thick of things.
Spotlight: Fetched 250,000gns as a yearling and has looked an excellent prospect in winning two 7f novices at Doncaster (good to firm/good) this year; made smooth headway and readily went clear of 15 rivals on second occasion two weeks ago; that fully justifies today's rise in grade and he could be anything.
Spotlight: Sole win came at odds of 1-6 in AW maiden in February but she has run some excellent races in defeat in Group company, notably when second in last month's Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh (1m, good; 50-1); she was still in front inside the final 1f that day and should be just as effective back at 7f; has to be respected.
Spotlight: Cost 500,000euros as a yearling and created a favourable impression with a convincing win in maiden at the Curragh (6f, soft) on sole 2yo outing; good third in Group 3 Greenham at Newbury (7f, good; raced freely, kept on) on reappearance; lacks experience but has stacks of potential.
Spotlight: Bred to be smart and he's improving with every run, having things sewn up a long way out when a convincing winner of Yarmouth novice (6f, good to firm) nine days ago; this is much tougher but returning to 7f should be no inconvenience and it's hard to know where his limit lies; commands respect.
Spotlight: Fine fourth to Field Of Gold in the Craven at Newmarket (1m, good) but came up well short in the 2,000 Guineas (66-1); back down in grade today but could still be vulnerable and David Egan prefers California Dreamer.
Spotlight: Super Sprint winner over 5f last July; unplaced all three starts since, including when no threat in 6f Listed race back at Newbury on reappearance; pedigree gives hope that he'll stay 7f but he has a mountain to climb on form.
Spotlight: Gained Listed win at Newbury (6f, good) last summer on final 2yo run and excelled himself when eighth in last month's 2,000 Guineas (66-1) despite being hampered at the start; needs another step forward and he was well held in the Coventry here 12 months ago, but he may not be fully exposed.
Spotlight: Runaway winner at Lingfield (7f) last autumn but has not built on that, always in rear when dropped in trip for Listed sprint at Newbury last month; this looks a stiff task but at least returning to 7f should help.
Spotlight: Won valuable sales race at Newmarket (6f, soft) last summer when trained by Sylvester Kirk and made solid start for new yard when fourth in Group 3 here (6f, good to firm) in April; stays 7f (placed in the Chesham here 12 months ago) and should again give his running but he'll need a big career best to win.
Spotlight: Assembling a solid record on good ground (twice below par in the mud) and he led until near the finish when a close second in 7f Listed event at Naas five weeks ago; may not have reached his ceiling just yet and he has each-way possibilities.
Spotlight: Highly tried since sole win (7f, good to firm) last June, making frame in National Stakes and Dewhurst before finishing down the field at the Breeders' Cup and in the 2,000 Guineas; no forlorn hope on best form, and he's been gelded since his last run, but he does need to get back on track.
Spotlight: Shaped as if today's drop back to 7f would suit when fourth in 1m Listed race at Sandown three weeks ago, and he'd previously won a conditions race at Newmarket over this trip; however, others probably have more potential.
Spotlight: From a family featuring several Group-race performers and he showed useful form himself when third in last month's German 2,000 Guineas (1m, good), but that still leaves him a long way down the pecking order on ratings.

Last year's victor Haatem was treading a familiar path for Jersey winners in dropping in distance and grade from a Guineas run, and California Dreamer arrives with a similar profile after her fine second in the Irish 1,000. She makes the shortlist along with the unbeaten Remmooz and the fast-improving Spy Chief, but the most compelling claims are held by COMANCHE BRAVE (nap), whose dam Ishvana won this race in 2012. Promising runs in a Group 3 and the Irish 2,000 Guineas lay a solid foundation for Comanche Brave's 3yo campaign and this progressive colt now looks ready to strike. The lightly raced and unexposed Saracen may pose the main threat.[Richard O'Brien] Show less
