Spotlight: Still learning the ropes as a sprinter, proving particularly strong in the closing stages at Newmarket (6f, good to soft) on yard debut and then finding that the uphill climb there came to his rescue, after he did not have the clearest of runs, when touching off Aramram in the last stride seven weeks ago (good; unraced on firmer); up 6lb but this test looks sure to bring out more from him; yard has won this race twice, most recently last year.
Spotlight: Well ahead of his mark when winning two C&D handicaps (good and good to firm) last summer and he chased Apollo One home in a Group 3 here on soft in October; caught out for a bit of pace at a crucial stage when turned over at a short price in a Listed Salisbury race on reappearance but he should come on for the run and this thorough test will be ideal; strong claims.
Spotlight: Took time to get going in handicaps but things went much better in the autumn when he won either side of a second of 22 in the Ayr Silver Cup; has returned in the same vein this year, twice runner-up to More Thunder at Newmarket (6f; good to soft and good) before gaining a deserved Newbury win; up 4lb; should run to his level but one or two others may be on better marks now.
Spotlight: Has fallen between a few stools since his latest win, in a Listed race as a 2yo, and was a disappointing favourite for the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood last August (had good form there); running respectably in 2025 but it was More Thunder who did the better late work when they finished first and seventh at Newmarket (good) in May and he could probably have done with a wet week; still too talented to leave out.
Spotlight: Made a very bright start to his handicap career when winning twice in the spring of 2023 before a never-nearer sixth of 27 in this race; maddeningly in and out since but he was nevertheless an excellent close third in this (good to firm) under Saffie Osborne 12 months ago and the lack of a recent run isn't necessarily a drawback; no surprise to see his grey head loom up late.
Spotlight: Regularly runs well in big-field sprints and in fine form here in 2024, finishing a close second of 26 over C&D before winning both subsequent starts (good and soft); may be high in the weights relative to this class of race but he shouldn't be far away following a luckless Goodwood run and then slightly short of room at York since.
Spotlight: Did well when fifth of 19 in the Group 3 Jersey at this meeting (7f, good to firm) last year considering he didn't get the best of runs; later proved he has what it takes over 6f when winning at Doncaster (soft) and the return to good to firm was no hindrance when involved in a tight finish for a Listed Salisbury race on his reappearance; may do better yet.
Spotlight: Multiple turf wins on good or quicker ground, the best of them when making all in the Stewards' Cup last August, when racing against the stand rail, and over C&D in May; back up 7lb and, although just 2lb higher than the former win, it's going to be a lot harder to pull off the same tactics here.
Spotlight: Thereabouts in 6f Group races in France and Ireland last summer, including on good to firm, and has shed a few pounds with his mark since; hampered on last two AW starts and not discounted back on turf in first-time cheekpieces for yard that won this with 22-1 shot Saint Lawrence (also runs today) in 2023.
Spotlight: Has made good progress in the last 12 months; won at Southwell (5f, AW) and Leicester (6f, good to firm) on first two starts this season before he was slightly disadvantaged by the way Aramram's Newbury race unfolded last time out; this asks for more but he could still take high rank.
Spotlight: Won yard debut in the 2023 running of this and he followed that with a close third in a Group 1 at Deauville but he never even reached the frame in 2024, finishing well back in this race; some faint signs of life on AW in 2025 but he needs to return to his best pronto to have any chance.
Spotlight: Shot up the weights following a good spell in Bahrain in midwinter which included handicap wins at 7f and 6f and he took time to pick up when a never-nearer sixth of 13 on Newcastle AW (6f) in May; has some potential on grass but perhaps not enough for this competitive a race.
Spotlight: Has run some excellent races in leading handicaps, such as when third of 25 in the Ayr Gold Cup (6f, good to firm) in September, and he was about only 1l behind Jarraaf in the C&D Group 3 won by Apollo One in October; needs to prove his stamina reserves are equal to this rugged test, though.
Spotlight: Good or quicker ground is ideal; close up in two 5f handicaps on this course last summer but she has a great record over 6f at Newmarket as well, so it's slightly offputting that she didn't run better behind More Thunder there on second run back from a break; some reservations this time.
Spotlight: Can lead; often distinguishes himself at this level, including when runner-up in this race in 2023, and after going down narrowly in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood (6f, good to firm) he was denied by only American Affair, who won the Group 1 King Charles III on Tuesday, in the Portland at Doncaster in September; justice was finally done when he saw off Jarraaf in a Group 3 over C&D (soft) in October but he needs to be better than ever to defy this mark.
Spotlight: All races at 7f and progressed well with varying tactics, making all on reappearance at Newmarket (good; has won on good to firm), and the way he checked out tamely in a top handicap here in May suggests something wasn't right; races freely and well worth a go at 6f; now tongue tied; considered.
Spotlight: Close third of 16 in the Listed Chesham (7f, good to firm) here as 2yo; has rather see-sawed since but he made all over 6f on the AW in February and returned to form with a close call at Epsom (7f, good to soft) recently; however, different skills are needed in this first 6f handicap on turf.
Spotlight: Impressive AW winner for William Haggas last June; kept to good to soft and soft on turf for him after, showing useful form once; he should do well as a 4yo, given his strong effort in a warm handicap on Newcastle AW (6f) on second start for this yard, and no surprise if he goes well.
Spotlight: Often leads; classy 2yo form included a Group 2 win in the Norfolk (5f) here in 2023; out of sorts last summer but he's won three times on AW (at 5f, 6f and 1m) since October and 7f on soft going wouldn't have been much good to him in a Group 3 at Leopardstown last week; however, this first turf handicap is a new challenge.
Spotlight: Has won at 6f on AW and was a close fifth of 25 in the Stewards' Cup at Goodwood (6f, good to firm) in August, but others are likely to be coming home more strongly unless a first-time tongue-tie makes all the difference.
Spotlight: Grand old sprinter who was in the frame in the Group 1 King's Stand here in 2022 and 2023 but was down the field in that race on Tuesday and has been some way off even last year's best form for new yard; needs weight off his back if he's to make his way in handicaps again.
Spotlight: Group 3 winner over C&D in 2021 and she's often run well here since but a return to her best hasn't been sighted so far this year; capable of a big run back in a handicap but couldn't count on one.
Spotlight: Has shown his best form at Chester, winning over both sprint trips, but his 5f win there in May came in a much less competitive race than this and he was 100-1 when never involved in this race last June.
Spotlight: Can lead; had some good results for previous yard and was running well in Bahrain earlier in 2025 for this one but he wasn't on his game in the Dash at Epsom recently, nor was he good enough in this race last year.
Spotlight: Three 6f wins on AW since November but he called it quits well over 1f out on return to turf at York in May and, although it's never wise to rule out the yard in top sprints (they have won this race twice), he has it to prove on course debut.
Spotlight: He's had what it takes at this level and was third of 26 in the 2022 running, but hard to place now and recent 7f handicap form isn't up to scratch; dropping in the weights but perhaps not quickly enough for a now-rare 6f run.
Spotlight: Smart for Charlie Appleby in his youth, four wins including the Group 3 Jersey at this meeting as a 3yo (made all); however, he missed all of 2024 and beat a total of one rival in two AW runs for David O'Meara before sold on for 4,200gns in March; can only be watched.
Spotlight: Won a good-ground Group 2 at Chantilly (5f) in 2023 but the rest of his form says he would have welcomed good to soft or slower and this is the first time he's raced on ground quicker than good.

This race has had its share of surprises over the years but as things stand MORE THUNDER has a good chance of proving suited by this thorough test at 6f and improving on the highly promising start he's made for this yard. Solid claims are held by Jarraaf (second choice) who looked better the further he went when winning both his C&D handicaps last summer. Aramram, touched off by More Thunder at Newmarket early last month, has won at Newbury since and can also be involved, along with Zoum Zoum who appeals as a sprinter with more to offer. Completely Random is capable of putting a recent hiccup behind him, while Orazio can never be safely left out on this track and Germanic has a chance on his AW form.[Emily Weber] Show less
